Have No Fear; There Is Plenty

News came that something terrible had happened to John. It sorrowed Jesus, and he quickly left the boat he was on to see what had happened to John. Jesus had compassion on the people who met him there. He taught men, women, and children on this particular day. The day became long, and they became hungry. Jesus directed the people to sit down on the grass. Jesus took the five loaves and the two fish a young boy was carrying, looked up to heaven, gave thanks, and broke the bread. Then he gave it to the disciples, and the disciples gave it to the people. They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. The number of those who ate was about five thousand men, besides women and children. What a miracle! Let me share with you something about this day.
I have wondered why there were leftover broken pieces of this bread. What did this mean, and why were there twelve baskets? There was plenty of bread for the day, but when the day had ended the men, women, and children had a long journey HOME. God made sure that even on their way HOME, they had sufficient bread until the end of their journey.
I believe the twelve baskets could be a connection to the twelve tribes of Israel. There’s no telling how many pieces of bread were in the baskets. One thing for certain: there was enough bread to last them until they all got HOME.
Today, there’s plenty of bread for you. There’s an ample supply. There’s enough bread until you get HOME! He not only takes care of you today, but every day until your journey has ended.
