Know Your Sins
by Theresa Corum, Editor

It was a cloudy, rainy night, and lightning and thunder traveled across the sky – all three in perfect rhythm. While enjoying the beauty of the moment and the magnificent show of God’s hand, the rain seemed to purify all it touched.

I prayed, “God, I want to know pureness. I want to know wholeness”.

As sincere as my heart might be, never would I have ever known that this would follow. Only moments later, I heard deep within me, “know your sin.” My mind took a trip into journeys past, and oh my goodness! I saw hurt; I saw pain; and I saw rejection. Not what I had endured, but what I had imposed on others. Not knowing I had done these things and having no
idea this was a part of my journey traveled, brokenness became the beat of my heart.

This is the brokenness I felt for a long time without knowing why I was feeling this way. This brokenness went away on that rainy night when I acknowledged, confessed, and refused to continue doing those things.

We should desire knowledge of our own failures, so we can change and become whole within ourselves. Could it be that not knowing may be the reason we sometimes feel incomplete? It’s because we are in fact, incomplete. It is because of our wrongdoing. Remember, it is not only what others may or may not have done to us, but what we have done to them that can cause internal restlessness or feelings we can’t explain.

Until we know our sin, we don’t know what to stop doing or stop saying. The wise thing for all of us is to be willing to know our faults, acknowledge our sin, and refuse to continue in that path. Certainly, this will bring us to pureness and wholeness. Sin neither unnoticed nor dealt with will keep a person from a restful and peaceful life.

If you feel like you are restless or incomplete and have become broken by what you may have said or done, then be sincerely honest with yourself and don’t do those things again. Know your sin, repent, and then pureness and wholeness will be yours within. The blessings of God will fall like the rain from the night sky. He will be your light; he will be your thunder. All in the perfect rhythm of life. Blessings of grace, rest and peace will be yours.
